Hello!

Nice to meet you! I'm Alan, a student at Pomona College majoring in Math and Computer Science. I just finished an internship at InterSystems (which I loved a lot!!), and I currently work as a Data Structures TA, with interests in deep learning and discrete math.

Outside of Programming and Math, I love solving puzzles (especially cryptograms!), window shopping, and cooking. I've also recently started volleyball, which I've been enjoying a lot! In my spare time, I like to watch kdrama, go on walks, and play my guitar.

If you have any kdrama/music recs, don't hesitate to send them my way :)

What I've Been Doing

Due to the pandemic, I've had a lot more time at home to learn and explore!
Here's a few things that I've been spending time on:

  • Practicing my receives and serves
  • Cooking (especially steak)
  • Learned the art of counting quickly
  • Playing fav songs on guitar/uke
  • Studying Korean (재미있어요!)
  • Practicing my free throws

A Few Projects

Here's some things that I've recently worked on. Check them out!

P-Web: HTML Text Generation

Worked in a P-AI project team (Claremont Colleges AI Incubator) to build, train, and fine-tune a natural language processing model that can generate HTML code. I wrote python scripts used to scrape 10,000+ raw html files, and then trained & fine-tuned a GPT-2 text-gen model using the training set. Check out more about P-AI here!

Twitter Toxicity Sentiment Analysis

Built a NLP classifier with PyTorch and Fastai from a Kaggle training set to identify toxicity within online comments, and then deployed it using Starlette and the Twitter API to grab recent tweets to analyze. Check out my repo and presentation!

API Classifier on Voter Registration

Scraped Wikipedia for name data to train a model that classifies ethnicity by name, and then used the trained model to determine Asian American voter representation from voter registration records of local Ohio counties. Check out my slides!

The Case for Relational Activism

Wrote an opinion article for Hearhere, the journal for Christian thought for the Claremont Colleges, on my thoughts about activism in the wake of racial divide across the United States. Check it out here!

In Response to Microaggressions

Wrote an opinion article for Hearhere, the journal for Christian thought for the Claremont Colleges, on my experiences with microaggressions as a Chinese-American growing up in the Midwest. Check it out here!
